Work to demolish Gosport's former bus station has restarted and is due to finish within six weeks.

Contractors had to stop operations in June after nesting birds were found when they were stripping the inside of the building.

But excavators are back on site and have removed the front of the building in the last few days.

Once cleared the site is to be made into a "people's park" with a bandstand, restaurants and bars and views across the harbour to Portsmouth.

The park had been due to open for summer 2025, with the performance structure and concessions building operating by summer 2026.

Councillor Peter Chegwyn, leader of Gosport Borough Council, said: "You'd have struggled this summer to find somewhere to sit in central Gosport, have a beer and food and see the water, I'm so glad that is changing for next year."

He added the park was part of a £38m regeneration project to improve access to the waterfront and regenerate the high street.

A new travel interchange has been operating since October 2024, located in front of Falkland Gardens.
