A Bradford City supporter has been banned from attending matches for three years over his actions during a disturbance involving opposition fans.

Jack Wood, 18, of Jer Lane, jumped a cordon before a match in Bradford on 13 September and charged towards Huddersfield Town fans, swearing, being abusive and causing alarm to members of the public and children, police said.

Wood, who admitted a public order offence at Bradford Magistrates' Court on Monday, was earlier warned over similar behaviour, according to West Yorkshire Police.

Ch Insp Mark Gamlyn said: "Loutish criminal behaviour such as this is completely unacceptable and causes unnecessary distress and upset to those who have to witness it."

Officers had been dealing with a separate disturbance between fans outside the Bradford Arms pub, on Manningham Lane, before arresting Wood, a force spokesperson said.

"We know the vast majority of fans, particularly families and children, don't want to experience this when they set out to see their teams play," Ch Insp Gamlyn added.

"We will always treat incidents like this seriously and we hope the lengthy banning order resulting from this latest prosecution will send a clear message."
