A pop-up skate park designed with the help of schoolchildren has been created in a multi-storey car park.

For the third year running, the Level 7 Skate Event will take over the seventh floor of the car park at Cabot Circus in Bristol from 26 October to 3 November.

The area has been built by skate park design company Canvas, which worked in partnership with children from May Park Primary School in Easton to design a new area for beginners.

Chandon Gallagher, communication advisor at Canvas said: "This year we have a dedicated slow space for beginners, supported by Subway, designed with Skate Board GB and children from May Park Primary."

Mr Gallagher said: "There is a lot of social value in this project, the main premise of it is to empower the children and help them to design the area, which is innovative as children aren't often consulted and only seen as passive users.

"We wanted to flip that and give the children agency to make them active citizens."

The slow space area is for skaters to master skills and there will be a selection of lessons.

It will run alongside the main skating area which will have open jam sessions for more experienced skaters to perfect their moves, as well as special jams, workshops, and a film premiere.

James Almond, vice principal at May Park Primary said the school has a group of "dedicated" young skaters who have "developed a passion for designing their own skatepark features".

He said: "The children’s innovative ideas will be brought to life, providing them with a unique opportunity to experience the thrill of skating on their own creations.

"We are incredibly proud of our skateboarding club and the talented young people who are part of it, and the upcoming pop-up event is a fantastic way to showcase their creativity and hard work."

Kirstey Elston, Subway’s marketing director said: “We have loved being part of the exciting initiative to re-launch the ‘Level 7’ indoor skatepark at Cabot Circus this October half term, where there will be new features and activities for everyone to enjoy, no matter their skating ability."

Sessions are free but need to be booked on the event's website.
