City's landmark buildings lit up for Christmas

Sheffield Cathedral will be illuminated to highlight its architecture and stained-glass windows, the council said

Some of Sheffield's most recognisable buildings are to be illuminated for 10 days in the run up to Christmas.
Light Up Sheffield will see Sheffield Cathedral, Central Library, and Pounds Park illuminated with projections inspired by the city's "heritage, creativity, and community", the council said.
The event, a partnership between Sheffield BID, The Art House, Sheffield Cathedral and Sheffield City Council, is set to run from 5 December to 14 December, between 17:00 and 21:00 GMT each day.
"By bringing together local artists, iconic buildings, and stunning light projections, we're creating something truly special," councillor Mohammed Mahroof said.
The politician said he hoped the free event would bring people into the city centre, support local businesses and add to a "vibrant programme of Christmas activities already under way".
Mahroof said the festive programme would also include an exhibition at Sheffield Central Library, inspired by the city, of the artist Pete McKee's work.
'Light, hope and togetherness'
As part of the illumination programme Sheffield Cathedral will be illuminated with projections highlighting its architecture and stained-glass windows, with a festive display of more than 40 Christmas trees decorated by local charities.
At Pounds Park a large-scale mural is due to be animated with new digital elements, drawing on Sheffield's regeneration and waterways.
"Christmas is a time for light, hope and togetherness. Light Up Sheffield is a chance to see our beautiful city at its very best – shining in the way that only Sheffield can," the Dean of Sheffield, the Very Reverend Abi Thompson, said.
