Police arrested a man after a 17-hour stand-off in Potters Field, Gorleston

A man was arrested after reports of someone threatening a neighbour with a loaded crossbow led to a 17-hour stand-off with police.

Armed officers, as well as dog and drone units, were deployed to a bungalow in Potters Field, Gorleston, on Sunday morning.

Norfolk Police said a cordon was put in place and specialist negotiators called to the scene after a suspect had locked himself inside a property and refused to leave.

A 53-year-old man was arrested just before 01:30 BST on Monday on suspicion of affray, possession of offensive weapons including a crossbow and machetes, and possession of an illegal zombie knife.

During initial searches of the address, a number of homemade Molotov cocktails were discovered, the force added.

The property remained sealed off and further police searches were set to take place.

Ch Insp Shaun Baker said: "While this was a fairly lengthy stand-off between the suspect and our specialist teams, our overriding aim in these situations is the safety of the public, our officers and the suspect.

"We know this incident caused some disruption to neighbours in the area and we'd like to thank them for their understanding while our teams dealt with it."
