A man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of repeatedly raping a woman over a period of nine years.

Paul McQuade of Stockton was found guilty of three counts of rape, one attempted rape and three charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after a trial at Teesside Crown Court in July.

The 49-year-old was jailed for 26 years at Leeds Crown Court on Friday.

Det Sgt Ali of Cleveland Police's Domestic Abuse Solutions Team, praised the victim for her courage for reporting the crimes in 2022, which happened between 2002 and 2011.

“The victim showed tremendous courage and resolve to contact the police and disclose the abuse she had suffered years ago, " he said.

“She had to relive the trauma of what happened to her by giving evidence against him but thankfully, the jury saw through McQuade's lies and returned a guilty verdict on all charges.

“I hope the victim and her family can find some comfort knowing McQuade is now in prison and is no longer able to harm anyone else,” he added.
