Plans to build more than 500 homes in Lichfield have been approved by councillors.

More than a third of the development at Cricket Lane will include affordable housing along with two play areas, two football pitches, a pavilion and a bus route with two new bus stops.

The estate will have two distinct areas of "village" and "traditional", the application's agent said.

Pedestrian and cycle routes have been added across the site to the proposal as well as links to an existing canal towpath, they added.

The Home Builders Federation estimated the development would create 1,800 jobs for local people.

The plans were unanimously approved despite some councillors raising concerns over the number of parking spaces at the sports pitches.
