A cathedral has launched a search for former choir members ahead of its 150th anniversary celebrations.

Worcester Cathedral is preparing to mark the first service that the voluntary choir performed for on 11 October 1874.

Over the years, hundreds of children and adult choristers wearing their distinctive blue cassocks have sung on Sunday evenings.

A Sung Eucharist service is being held on 13 October where the cathedral hopes former singers will be reunited.

Paul Trepte, former director of the voluntary choir, has been commissioned to write a new anthem to mark the anniversary, which will be premiered at the service by the voluntary choir and cathedral choir.

"It would be wonderful to welcome many former choir members to this special anniversary event, " said the cathedral’s assistant director of music, Nicholas Freestone.
