Accused says he could not pin anyone down - court
- Published
A man accused of multiple rapes said he would not be able to pin someone down as he had been sexually abused as a child, a court heard.
Jamie Kadolski, 24, of Ladysmith Road, Norwich, is accused of 13 sexual offences which were said to have been committed over an 18-month period against four women.
During his defence Mr Kadolski said that he was in a “loving relationship” with one of the complainants, who he had met through an online dating app.
Mr Kadolski denies the charges and said all the sexual activity was consensual. The trial continues at Norwich Crown Court.
When giving evidence the 24-year-old said he had met one of the complainants on Tinder, an internet dating site, on which he said he was looking for "short term fun".
Mr Kadolski told the court the complainant sent the first message and the relationship became sexual on the first date.
He said he met her family and it was a "fairly standard loving relationship" and he never had non-consensual sex with her.
Mr Kadolski told the court he had been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Asperger's syndrome, dyspraxia and autism spectrum disorder in 2010, but that the conditions did not affect his understanding of consent.
Mr Kadolski has been accused of 15 sexual offences, but on two charges the jury has been told that he has no case to answer.
The charges include four allegations of rape against one woman between August and December 2022.
'I’m not the best with empathy'
The jury heard that Mr Kadolski had three interviews with the police between November 2023 and April 2024, where he denied all the accusations that the complainants had made.
When questioned by officers he said he did not like the thought of pinning someone down as he had been “sexually abused as a child”.
When asked by officers if there were arguments with one of the complainants who Mr Kadolski was in a relationship with, he said no.
He said that he remembered her crying once and he said he cuddled her but told officers, “I’m not the best with empathy or sympathy”.
The court heard he told the officers that he knew one of the other complainants lived in facility that supported people with mental health issues.
Mr Kadolski is accused of two counts of assault by penetration and attempted strangulation with intent to commit rape or sexual assault.
Other counts include sexual assault and assault by penetration on a second complainant in January 2023.
A third woman is said to have been sexually assaulted in September 2023, while a fourth is alleged to have been raped in January this year.
Mr Kadolski denies all the charges.
