A seagull was killed after being repeatedly stamped on, prompting an RSPCA witness appeal.
It happened in the Springfield Road area of Blackpool, Lancashire, at about 12:17 GMT on Tuesday.
A man was seen allegedly kicking out at a group of gulls before one got caught under his foot and was killed, the charity said.
The RSPCA has released a CCTV image of a man who was seen in the area at the time that they would like to speak to.
RSPCA inspector Daniel Tomlinson said: "We've received sad reports of a gull allegedly being stamped on in Blackpool and we'd like to establish what happened.
"We're keen to speak to this man as we believe he may have important information for us which will help with our enquiries."
