Potential operators can declare an interest in providing a bike hire scheme as part of plans to cut vehicle traffic in Shrewsbury.

More than £340,000 from the government was secured by Shrewsbury Big Town Plan Partnership to deliver sustainable transport schemes in the town centre.

Interested providers should get in touch by Wednesday afternoon to say they intend to put forward an expression of interest, external over a bike hire or local delivery service scheme, the group added.

It followed previous work towards cutting the amount of traffic in the area.

The partnership said over the last two years "small-scale cargo bike and rickshaw schemes" were run and, based on their success, it was looking to expand this idea.

The partnership was inviting interest in a "public bike hire scheme and/or a commercial last-mile delivery scheme".

The group is made up of Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury Town Council and Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID).

Interested groups or firms should tell Shrewsbury BID by 17:00 BST on Wednesday that they intend to submit an expression of interest.
