Man injured by falling masonry in Leicester Square

A man has been injured in central London after he was reportedly hit by a piece of falling masonry.

The 57-year-old received treatment at the scene and has been taken to hospital by air ambulance. The severity of his injuries are not yet known.

The incident occurred in Coventry Street, just off Leicester Square.

Police have told the public to avoid the area.

An eyewitness said there was "horrific screaming and everyone started running away".

"I saw someone with blood everywhere, they had been hit by something."

The incident happened outside Pret a Manger at the junction of Coventry Street and Whitcomb Street.

The eyewitness said it looked as if work was going on at the building.
