A driver has died in a single-car crash in north Dorset.

The incident, involving a grey BMW, happened shortly before 09:30 BST on the A357 Cook's Lane, near Stalbridge.

The driver, a man in his 20s, died at the scene. His family has been informed.

The stretch of road, near Spire Hill Farm business estate, remained closed into the afternoon for crash investigation work.

Dorset Police appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.

Sgt Dave Cotterill, of the force's roads policing team, said: "Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the man who sadly died in this collision.

"I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place."
