Pair in court charged with toddler's murder

A man and woman have appeared in court accused of murdering a two-year-old girl.
Police were called to Hartington Close in Thornaby, on Teesside, on Saturday afternoon after concerns about the child, who later died in hospital, were reported.
Harrison Simpson, 21, formerly of Greenham Close, Middlesbrough, and 25-year-old Alexandra Walker, of Hartington Close, Thornaby, both appeared at Teesside Magistrates' Court.
Neither were asked to enter a plea and they were remanded in custody until their next appearance at Teesside Crown Court on Friday.
