A farm shop and garden nursery that supports adults with learning disabilities and mental health challenges has reopened after being shut since the spring.

Darwin Nurseries in Cambridge is a horticulture project run by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT), that helps co-workers gain skills, independence and confidence.

It was closed in May and minor maintenance works were carried out.

Sally Abbott, a regular customer at the nursery in Newmarket Road, said it was "a travesty" when it closed but felt "phenomenally pleased" to see it reopen.

"We were starting to worry it would never reopen," she said.

Ms Abbott said Darwin Nurseries gave "co-workers a sense of purpose".

Holly Sutherland, chief operating officer at CPFT, said: "We are delighted to confirm that Darwin Nurseries and Farm Shop has reopened and is welcoming back our loyal customers and visitors."

She said a review of the service, as well as essential maintenance and improvement works, were carried out during the closure.
