A man who set out to complete 10 marathons in 10 days in memory of a friend who took his own life has completed the challenge - and raised £10k for suicide prevention charities.

Joe Wild ran across 10 towns and cities in memory of his friend Dan McAllister, who took his life 10 years ago.

The challenge began in Newcastle on 25 July and finished in the pair's home city of Sheffield on 3 August - the date Dan would have celebrated his 30th birthday.

Mr Wild said: "I'm achy, I'm tired, I'm sore - but I'm chuffed."

Money raised by the events will go to charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), which is dedicated to preventing male suicide, and Papyrus, which is focused on preventing suicide among young people.

The 262-mile (422km) challenge included runs in Middlesbrough, York, Hull, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke and Nottingham.

Mr Wild said he "didn't run a single mile alone", with supporters joining him across various stretches of the route.

"It was amazing and I was blown away by everyone who turned out - I literally couldn't have done it without them," he said.

He added he was grateful to see "so many loved ones" as the challenge drew to a close in Sheffield.

He said he was now planning to stay "horizontal for as much as possible" as part of his recovery.
