Snow has been falling in parts of Dorset and Hampshire, bringing travel disruption as well as picturesque scenes.

An amber weather warning is in place across much of the south west of England.

The Met Office warning, which continues into Wednesday evening, means vehicles could get stranded and power cuts are likely.

Near Beaminster, Dorset, a car reportedly collided with a gritter lorry shortly after 16:00 GMT.

Hampshire County Council said Salisbury Road in Sopley, New Forest, was closed between Ringwood Rd and Priest Lane due to flooding and was likely to remain closed until Thursday morning.

Dorset Council said it had been gritting roads serving smaller villages and hamlets since 08:00, along with main routes since 04:00.

Its Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) to help rough sleepers also remains in place.
