Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following an assault.

Thames Valley Police was contacted by South Central Ambulance Service after an incident at the Upland Avenue junction with Upper Belmont Road in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, at about 17:20 BST on Tuesday.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died on Saturday.

The two men, 18 and 47 and both from Chesham, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

They remain in police custody.

The man who died has not been formally identified but his next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers.

Det Ch Insp Peter Clarke said it was believed to be an isolated incident.

He said: "We are working hard to understand what has happened following this tragic incident and get his family the answers they deserve.

"People will see a large police presence in the area as our investigation continues; if you have any question or concerns, please feel free to approach officers and they will do their best to give you as much information as they can at this stage."

He said the force would like to speak to anyone in the area at the time of assault or any witnesses.
