Gas prices to rise by 10% from January

Island gas prices will rise by 10% from 1 January, Guernsey Energy has announced.
The island's sole gas supplier said that for an average household, it would mean an increase of approximately £9.37 per month.
Guernsey Energy said the increase was due to "geopolitical events across Europe" continuing to impact the price of wholesale gas over the past 12 months.
Managing Director, Darryl Goddard, said: "We understand that tariff increases can be difficult for our customers to manage, but given these circumstances they unfortunately cannot be avoided."
"Energy markets are subject to a variety of complex influences which impact our supply chain and keep the cost of services that are crucial to the supply of gas high," said Mr Goddard.
He added: "We're continuing to invest heavily across our network and drive forward a comprehensive maintenance programme.
Mr Goddard said the firm offered a Priority Customer Care scheme that offers support to vulnerable customers as well as reviews for customers to see where they can save energy and advice on using smart technology to manage consumption.
Guernsey Energy said a full breakdown of the new tariffs will be available on its on website, external from 1 January.
