A former member of staff at West Yorkshire Police has admitted falsely declaring herself to be the driver of a speeding Ford Transit van.

Kasey Howarth, 43, from Leeds, was charged with perverting the course of justice after an investigation by the police force's Counter Corruption Unit.

Leeds Crown Court heard how Howarth and her co-accused, James Burrow, 45, were charged after providing false information to police.

Both admitted the charge and were released on bail until 14 November, when they are due to be sentenced at the same court.

The judge said pre-sentence reports needed to be carried out before that date.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct said it oversaw the Counter Corruption Unit's investigation.

West Yorkshire Police said Howarth was put on restricted duties at the start of the investigation and had since resigned.

She remains subject to a linked misconduct investigation.
