Terminal cancer patient wins fight for walk-in shower

A man who said he only has six months to live has won his battle to get a walk-in shower installed at his home.
Denny Martin Dadge, 62, who lives near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, has been struggling to have a shower since he was diagnosed with late stage cancer earlier this year.
Mr Dadge, who is a Guinness Homes tenant, had been told there was no funding available and advised to rely on his family’s help to have a wash.
The housing association has confirmed they will now install a shower for him.
“I’ve had two strokes, I’ve got vascular dementia, and I’ve got cancer of the lungs. I’m 62 and I’m dying,” he told the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
“I’ve got a bath with a shower in but I can’t get into the bath because my legs don’t work.
"I have to get my family to wash me with flannels."
A spokesperson from The Guinness Partnership said a visit has been scheduled for next week to assess the work needed to install the shower.
“The first request we received for a low level access shower to be installed at this property was in a letter from an occupational therapist dated August 8, 2024,” they said.
“A visit has been arranged for next Tuesday to assess the work to be completed, with installation to follow as soon as possible after this.”
