Rail passengers are being warned of disruption because of track improvement works.

There will be no Great Western Railway (GWR) services between Gloucester and Swindon via Stroud from Tuesday until Saturday.

The work includes replacing track on level crossings in the Kemble area and maintenance on a bridge.

Chloe Coglan, GWR station manager for Cheltenham Spa and Gloucester said the work was part of a programme to ensure GWR continues "to provide consistent and reliable services".

"It's important that customers are aware these alternative travel arrangements will make journey times much longer, so please plan ahead," she added.

Rail replacement transport will be available between Gloucester and Stroud, Stonehouse, Kemble and Swindon, during the duration of the work.

Rail replacement services in Stonehouse will run from the Town Hall in the High Street and not from the railway station.

Trains between Swindon and London Paddington will be unaffected, with direct trains also running between Cheltenham Spa, Gloucester and London Paddington via Bristol Parkway.

Mark Parker, Network Rail Lead Portfolio Manager, said: "We're sorry to temporarily close the railway but we're making full use of the opportunity to complete several key pieces of work."
