The remains of a human skeleton found at a property in Lincolnshire are believed to be centuries old, police said.

The bones were found by members of the public at Brookside Close, a cul-de-sac in Ancaster, on Saturday.

The discovery is not being treated as suspicious after police conducted an assessment of the bones and found what is thought to be Roman pottery in the burial site.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said it was believed the skeleton belongs to "someone from centuries-old settlements which were heavily present in the area".

The investigation will be handed over to the Lincolnshire County Council Archaeology team and South Kesteven District Council, the spokesperson added.
