Scotland Yard said it was "investigating the circumstances" after nine people fell ill

A number of people fell ill after taking a substance "believed to be heroin", police said.

The Metropolitan Police said it was so far aware of nine cases in the Camden area of north London.

None of those taken ill have died, although the force said it continued to "monitor the situation".

The Met said it was working with Camden Council to investigate the incident. No arrests have been made.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are aware of nine cases and believe that all of these people have fallen ill after taking a substance believed to be heroin.

"At this time, there have been no fatalities but we continue to monitor the situation."

Met Police warned people against buying, selling or consuming illegal drugs as they were unregulated and there were "very serious risks associated" with the substances.
