Councillors have given the go ahead to plans to create a mosque in a former Aberdeen church.

Applicants MECCA want to make alterations to the former Free Greyfriars Church and Old Episcopal Church in Crown Street.

After falling out of use as a church, the building was used for decades as a motorbike showroom and workshop, but has been vacant since 2022.

There were more than 40 objections to the plans, including concerns over parking. However, councillors on the city council's planning development management committee unanimously agreed to approve it, subject to conditions.
