A "reckless" driver who reached 150mph (241km/h) in a bid to escape police during a chase across three counties has been jailed.

Wail Abduljabbar was spotted driving a Range Rover Sport erratically by officers in an unmarked car on the A1M near Stevenage, Hertfordshire, at about 00.50 BST on 17 July.

Police indicated for the 24-year-old to stop. He initially complied before suddenly swerving and continuing north on the A1M during a 30-mile (48km) pursuit before colliding with a roundabout at Buckden, Cambridgeshire.

Abduljabbar from Bridge Street, Peterborough tried to run from the crash but was taken down by a police dog and arrested. He has been jailed for 10 months.

Police said Abduljabbar had driven past a marked car at more than 120mph (193km/h) near Sandy in Bedfordshire.

He admitted dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance when he appeared at Peterborough Crown Court.

He was also disqualified from driving for 29 months when he was sentenced on 3 October.

PC Sean Little of Cambridgeshire Police said: “Abduljabbar showed a blatant disregard for the safety of other road users as he recklessly drove at incredibly high speed.

“His dangerous driving could easily have resulted in a serious, or even fatal, collision.

“Speeding is one of the most common causes of fatal collisions on our roads. Speed limits are in place for a reason and ignoring them puts lives at risk.”
