The M1 remains closed on Friday morning due to overrunning emergency roadworks

Drivers have been warned about delays after a section of the M1 motorway was closed due to emergency roadworks.

Work to resurface the northbound carriageway between junction five, near Watford, and junction six near Bricket Wood, in Hertfordshire, began overnight.

However, National Highways said on Friday morning while the resurfacing works had been completed, crews were waiting for it to be set before they could paint the white road lines.

A diversion is in place, external toward the Dome roundabout and toward Garston but there are delays due to increased traffic.
