The council has increased to cost of parking at Stover Country Park and the Grand Western Canal

Parking prices are set to rise at two council-owned nature reserves.

The cost of parking at Stover Country Park in Newton Abbot and the Grand Western Canal car park in Tiverton would increase by 10%, Devon County Council said.

The current £2 fare in both car parks for two hours would rise to £2.20, while the existing £4 charge for four hours would be £4.40 in both facilities, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, external.

The council said income from the car parks was used within the attractions themselves for maintenance and improvements to signage and paths.

Residents' permits for both car parks would rise by 4% from £25 to £26, the council said.

The corporate infrastructure and regulatory services scrutiny committee also heard prices in the Taw View car park in Barnstaple would rise after having been unintentionally overlooked for 14 years.

It proposed a 40% increase, from £1 for an hour to £1.40.

The committee asked the cabinet to consider reviewing car park charges annually rather than every two years.
