City of Wolverhampton Council said it would be "greatly appreciated" if people were able to donate

People are being invited to make a donation to help buy Christmas gifts for care leavers in Wolverhampton.

A city council team, which supports more than 400 young people, has started its Amazon Wish List, with residents going to a link on the online retailer's website and buying the item they want to donate.

The authority's Reach Leaving Care Team will then wrap them up and deliver the gifts in time for Christmas.

The Amazon Wish List has been developed in conjunction with care leavers and includes a range of presents, from chocolates to wellbeing gift sets, for people to choose from.

The team will also host a collection point where people can physically donate items, similar to those on the wish list.

This will be available at The Oasis Hub on Willenhall Road on Thursday afternoons from 13:00 GMT until 3 December.

Council cabinet member for children, young people and education Jacqui Coogan said each year it worked with the public and partners "to provide, as their corporate parent, our care leavers with something special at Christmas".

She added the authority knew times were tough, but "if you are able to buy a gift from the wish list, or donate something physically, I know it will be greatly appreciated".
