Two men have been sentenced for their involvement in a violent city centre incident.

The pair appeared in court after hundreds of far-right protesters and a counter group gathered for demonstrations near Castle Park in Bristol on 3 August.

Joshua Sarkozi, 25, of Shirehampton was handed an 18-month suspended prison sentence for violent disorder after footage of him throwing objects at people was shown before a judge.

Damien Williams, 39, of Knowle, was given a 16-week suspended sentence for a Section 4 public order offence after he was verbally abusive towards police.

Sarkozi and Williams pleaded guilty to the charges against them and were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court.

The unrest has seen 27 people sentenced after 52 were arrested and 43 charged as part of the subsequent investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert said the force's work to identify and "bring to justice those responsible for the disgraceful scenes" in Bristol continues.

"We have made it clear that we will not tolerate the sort of criminality we saw and more people will be sentenced over the coming weeks," he said.

Images of a number of people detectives want to speak to as part of their investigation have been released, external by Avon and Somerset Police.
