A woman has been seriously injured in a crash involving two cars on the M42 motorway.

It happened at about 07:05 BST between junction 10, for Tamworth in Staffordshire, and nine, for Curdworth in Warwickshire, and led to lengthy delays for rush-hour drivers.

The elderly woman was a back-seat passenger and was taken to University Hospital in Coventry.

Two others were assessed at the scene and discharged, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

National Highways said there were delays of up to 45 minutes as a result of the incident, but the road was fully open shortly before 10:00.
