The northbound carriageways of the Blackwall and Silvertown tunnels have been closed due to smoke from a nearby building fire.

About 70 firefighters are trying to extinguish the blaze at the industrial unit on Tunnel Avenue, Greenwich, in south-east London.

London Fire Brigade warned it was likely to be "a protracted incident". The closure may affect music fans leaving the O2 stadium, where singer Benson Boone is performing this evening.

The fire service said the tunnels carriageways were closed at about 20:00 GMT due to the lack of visibility caused for drivers. It is unclear when they might reopen.

It added: "Drivers travelling northbound are advised to find alternative routes and to expect extended journey times.

"Drivers travelling southbound via the Blackwall Tunnel may also face some disruption."

Firefighters were called to the scene at about 18:15. The cause of the fire is unknown.
