A fun day for children with special educational needs was organised by a mother who wanted to connect with parents in the same position.

Michelle, from the Canley area of Coventry, felt there were not enough events organised with the children in mind.

She said she felt her child, seven-year-old Koba, was excluded by other parents and not invited to parties, because of the way he could behave.

The fun day was held at St Stephens Church in Charter Avenue with a bouncy castle, candy floss machine, hot dogs and stalls. Money raised at the event would be used to fund the next one, she said.

Being a parent of a child with special educational needs could be upsetting, she added.

It took four and a half years before her son got a diagnosis and she said it had been "a struggle".

Koba was "quite a livewire at times" she said.

"People don't get him, they think that he's being aggressive, but he's actually trying to communicate with you.

"People don't get why he's having a meltdown over a silly little thing."

As well as putting on activities for other children to enjoy, she said she hoped to form a network with other parents in a similar position.

"I just want to be that parent that people can come and talk to," she said.
