Police officer charged after driver dies in crash

A police officer is set to appear in court after being charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
The officer, 38, who was driving an unmarked police car, pursued a Volkswagen Tiguan which had failed to stop for police on Newfoundland Circus, Bristol, on 5 November 2021.
During the pursuit, the Tiguan collided with a Honda. The driver of the Honda later died after sustaining serious injuries, the Independent Office for Police Conduct said.
The Avon and Somerset Police officer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear at Bristol Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
The charge comes after Avon and Somerset Police made a mandatory referral to the police watchdog in November 2021.
