Police have seized and destroyed a shipment of cannabis worth more than £300,000.

Staff at Trafalgar Road post office in Kettering, Northamptonshire noticed a strong smell coming from one of the parcels on 30 October.

Officers were called and discovered a consignment of packages, all sent from America and containing 1.5kg of cannabis, with a total street value of £315,000.

PC Sam Orton, of Northamptonshire Police, who attended the incident said: "People often think that this sort of incident is victimless, but the fact is, this amount of cannabis will have involved serious and organised crime and most likely the exploitation of vulnerable people here and abroad."

He added: "I hope this case sends a message to drug dealers that you cannot hide your criminal activities through our postal system."
