Hotel where boy electrocuted summoned to court

The Blackpool hotel's operators and the company's director must attend court

A hotel where a 10-year-old boy suffered a fatal electric shock is facing a health and safety prosecution by the local council.
Jack Piper-Sheach died in hospital after the incident in the reception area of Tiffany's Hotel in Blackpool on 3 September 2023.
Hotel operator Y7Hotels and the company's director Adam Johnstone have been summoned to attend Lancaster Magistrates Court by Blackpool Council.
The council said they are accused of five offences contrary to the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 ranging between 2 July 2020 and 10 November 2023.
A council spokesman said none of the offences related to the child's death.
The hearing has been listed for Lancaster Magistrates Court on 3 February, he added.
Shortly after the incident, Lancashire Police said following an initial investigation the matter had been passed to the council.
Jack, who was from Grimsby in Lincolnshire, died four days after the shock.
