The owners of an award-winning house that featured on Channel 4's Grand Designs are seeking planning permission to safeguard its future due to a landslip and erosion.

It has caused an "immediate threat" to the stability of the entrance to Cefn Castell, Criccieth, Gwynedd, and a boundary wall now overhangs the cliff, according to planning documents.

The owners want council planners to give them permission to carry out cliff stabilisation work following the landslip which was caused by water from a land drain.

The property was a winner of a Royal Institute of British Architects award, external for its design, as well as appearing on the TV show, external.

And it has also become something of a local landmark and tourist destination, bringing visitors to the area after being made available to rent, contributing "significantly" to the local economy, according to the documents.

The proposed work, which has yet to be discussed by officials at Cyngor Gwynedd, includes using steel anchors driven into the cliff face to provide stability and wire mesh cages filled with stone to form a retaining structure.

The design also includes placing large stones at the cliff base to absorb wave energy and prevent further erosion.

The landslip happened in February 2024 but subsequent inquiries failed to establish the ownership of the drain and the issue remained unresolved, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
