Football club wins funding to install solar panels

Newquay AFC said it had installed 27 new solar panels and 37.5kW of battery storage at its Mount Wise Stadium

A football club said it had taken a "major step forward" with the installation of solar panels and battery storage.

Newquay AFC said it had added 27 solar panels and 37.5kW (50.28HP) of battery storage at its Mount Wise Stadium in Newquay, with funding from the Community Levelling Up Programme through Cornwall Council.

The club said it could now operate using clean renewable energy and significantly reduce its carbon footprint, supporting a greener, more sustainable future for the local community.

Chairman of Newquay AFC Alan Lenton said the new additions did not only save on energy costs, but showed "real leadership in sustainability".

Mr Lenton said: "There's a real buzz and positive energy around Newquay AFC right now.

"From improvements to our facilities to progress on the pitch and new community initiatives, everything we're doing is driven by the same goal - to make this club the best it can be for our players, supporters and the town we represent."

He added the support from the Community Levelling Up Programme had been invaluable and highlighted the strong partnership between local authorities, suppliers and clubs.
