Police are treating a fire which tore through the roof of a former pub as suspicious.

Firefighters have been at the scene of the blaze at the former Boslowick Inn on Prislow Lane, in Falmouth, Cornwall, since 21:30 GMT on Tuesday.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze in the derelict building had been contained by 23:00 and crews were damping down hotspots and securing loose parts of the roof overnight.

Devon and Cornwall Police said detectives were treating the cause of the fire as suspicious and were working to determine the circumstances of the blaze.

The force said Cornwall Council and firefighters were working to make the structure safe and carry out a preliminary investigation.

It said there had been reports of anti-social behaviour in the area, which officers were looking into.

"If there is relevant information from this it will also feed into this investigation," police said.

Nearby resident Sarrelle McCann said: "It's a very sad day for us all in the area. Many of the happiest memories made at the Bozzy.

"For those that grew up in the area, the pub was used for all sorts of family occasions, this is why it's held so close in people's hearts and loved by so many generations."
