Two people were left in the care of paramedics after an e-scooter battery caught fire and set a house ablaze.

It started in a first floor bedroom of a home on Shetland Way in Corby, Northamptonshire, during the early evening on Wednesday and spread throughout the property.

Firefighters from the town and nearby Kettering wore breathing apparatus to put out the flames, which were largely dampened down by 18:00 GMT.

Northamptonshire Police said two people were left with the East Midlands Ambulance Service, with police officers remaining at the scene overnight. The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental.

National Grid also attended and isolated the electrics to the home and a neighbouring property while workers from Cadent isolated the gas supply.
