A motorcyclist has sustained serious injuries in a crash in Jersey, police have said.

Jersey Police said officers were called to Wellington Road in St Helier at about 13:50 BST on Saturday to reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a red Ducati Monster motorbike.

The force said it was reported the rider had fallen off after losing control before he crashed into parking bollards, and crews from Jersey Fire and Rescue Service were called after the motorbike caught alight afterwards.

Officers said the rider, a 52-year-old man, was taken to hospital and remained in a "serious but stable" condition.

A road closure was in place for about three hours while initial investigations took place, the force added.

Anyone with information about the crash has been asked to contact police or Crimestoppers.
