A member of St John Ambulance has been promoted to commander in the Order of St John.
Alan Guy, from Jersey, has been promoted because of his "outstanding contribution" to St John Ambulance and to public service.
The grand prior, the Duke of Gloucester, on behalf of the King, has approved the promotion.
It means Mr Guy is now the most senior volunteer in the charity and is a member of the board.
St John Ambulance said he has been a dedicated member of the service since August 2010 and had been actively involved in the organisation's youth programmes.
Speaking on his appointment, he said: "I am delighted and deeply honoured to receive this recognition.
"It has been a privilege to serve both St John and the wider community, and I look forward to continuing that service in the years ahead."
