A Grade II listed former grain warehouse in Sheffield is to be converted into residential apartments.

Plants to convert The Straddle in Victoria Quays into 27 homes were approved by Sheffield City Council on Tuesday.

In planning application documents, the applicant said the apartments would range from one-bed studios to three-bed family homes.

The building, located at the head of the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal, was built as a warehouse in about 1895 and was recently used as office space.

A planning report said it had stood empty since the Covid pandemic, with the owner struggling to find new tenants.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the applicant wrote: "To bring these buildings back in use, and provide much-needed housing, we are proposing to change The Straddle into a residential building."

Documents show there would be one bicycle storage facility per apartment and eight parking spaces in total.
