Four homes have been damaged in a large fire in Shepperton.

Emergency services were called to a blaze at a property in Hawthorn Way at about 20:30 GMT on Friday.

The fire has been extinguished but four properties were affected, Surrey Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS) said.

The road remained closed on Saturday and people were urged to avoid the area, Surrey Police said.

Six fire engines and one water carrier attended the scene.

"The fire is now out and, therefore, we will be scaling back on the number of fire engines in attendance soon while crews dampen down," said SFRS.

"We are working with partners to support the occupants," the fire service added.

Local residents were previously urged to keep their windows and doors closed.
