An investigation is under way after a man was rescued from a fishing boat that sunk off the west coast of Sark.

Guernsey Coastguard said it received a call from another vessel reporting the vessel had sunk, with a person recovered from the water, at about 12:00 BST on Tuesday.

The St Peter Port Inshore Lifeboat was launched to assist and a man was returned to shore where paramedics found no significant injuries.

The 5.5m (18ft) vessel was partially refloated by commercial divers and towed back to St Peter Port, but attempts to lift it out on Tuesday failed, said the coastguard.

Earlier Guernsey Ports used a crane to successfully pull the vessel out of the water.

The coastguard said a maritime safety investigation had been ordered by the Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents to "identify the cause of the accident and to prevent reoccurrence".
