Crossroads to be improved at collision hotspot
- Published
A construction project to enhance safety at a "cluster site for collisions" is due to begin on Monday.
Cambridgeshire County Council said the scheme, where Swaffham Heath Road met the A1303, would take three months.
Once completed, it would no longer be possible to go straight across the A1303 without stopping due to a new, staggered layout.
The council said the busy crossroads in Swaffham Bulbeck, near Newmarket on the Suffolk border, had long been an "area of concern" for road users.
"As part of these works, the whole junction will also be resurfaced and new road markings painted," it said in a statement, external.
To enable the work to be carried out, the council said a number of temporary traffic management measures would be introduced:
Closure of Swaffham Heath Road between the A1303 and the A1304 from 16 September until 29 November
Closure of the Swaffham Heath junction overnight (from 21:00 GMT to 05:00) from 4 November to 15 November
Temporary traffic lights installed at the Swaffham Heath junction during the day from 28 October to 15 November.
Neil Shailer, vice-chairman of the council's highways and transport committee, said the authority was committed to delivering "better, safer and more sustainable journeys".
"I am confident that we will soon start to see the benefit of these changes in terms of reduced accidents and injuries in this location," he added.
