A hypothermic man was rescued from a breakwater in Poole Harbour during the night after a security guard reported hearing cries for help.

Poole's RNLI inshore lifeboat was called to Poole Quay Boat Haven at 01:45 BST after the guard heard a voice calling from the far end of the marina.

An ambulance was called for the man who was described by the RNLI crew as "very wet, cold, and hypothermic".

The casualty was given warm, dry clothing and transferred to the care of paramedics.
