The Grand Appeal has received £3,980 in anonymous donations

A children's charity in Bristol says it is "eternally grateful" after receiving four anonymous donations worth thousands of pounds.

The Grand Appeal, a charity supporting sick babies and children at Bristol Children's Hospital and St Michael's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, said from July it had received four envelopes full of cash totalling £3,980 from a mystery donor.

The charity said the money allowed it to fund 160 nights in one of its three free family accommodation houses.

"We're extremely thankful to whoever this person is," said Chloe Smith, communications manager at the charity.

"We're really thankful to them as we are to all of our donors.

"But there's this added layer of mystery to this one, which is unusual, but equally as lovely."

'Lifeline'

Ms Smith said the money would "hugely benefit" the charity, with Bristol Children's Hospital serving the largest geographical area of any children's hospital in England.

She said: "Our family accommodation is a lifeline, otherwise they are facing an unknown facility where they don't know anyone, with the added pressure of a sick child in hospital.

"It provides a vital critical service to so many families.

"A big thank you to whoever the person is. We're eternally grateful and we hope they know the impact they have made on countless people."
