Pet owners travelling between Jersey and the EU have been told to ensure documents are valid

  • Published

People travelling with their pets are being reminded to check their documents are up to date, and to consider the impact of weather conditions.

The States of Jersey said during the winter months ferries are more likely to be cancelled, delayed or brought forward due to rough sea conditions which could impact those travelling with pets.

If the information on a pet passport or animal health certificate is not correct the animal may be refused entry or detained, the States said.

It also reminded owners of checks that needed to be made with pet passports, treatment and vaccinations.

Microchip date

The ownership section of the passport must be signed although those issued before 29 December 2014 do not require a signature.

The microchip date should predate the rabies vaccination, and owners must make sure the vaccination is valid for the journey.

The States also reminded people tapeworm treatment must be given no less than 24 hours before, and not more than 120 hours prior, to arrival in Jersey.

The tapeworm section of the pet passport would also need to be filled in correctly, it added.
