A 79-year-old woman has died after a two-car crash near Peterborough.

A silver Ford Fiesta was moving eastbound on the A16 when it crashed with a silver Kia Sorento travelling in the opposite direction at about 18:10 GMT on Friday, Cambridgeshire Constabulary said.

Two other people were seriously injured and one of them remained in a critical condition, officers added.

Anyone with information about the collision was asked to contact the force.

The deceased was a passenger in the Sorento, from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sorento driver, also aged 79 and from the Spalding area in Lincolnshire, was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries.

The Fiesta driver, a 33-year-old, from Sawtry, Cambridgeshire, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital where he remained in a critical condition.
